DEVICE: GreaseWeazle 4.1 DRIVE: TEAC FD-55GFR SUITE: FluxEngine (decoder.retries=3, drive.revolutions=1.2) ARCHIVER: Lee Smallbone ARCHIVED: 2026-05-04 20:30 (GMT/UTC) NOTES: Disk is clean. Attempt made to read disk as-is initially failed but this was operator error (160KB disk rather than 320KB). 100% media recovery. Disk returned to original sleave for archiving. On Disk Revue was an early hybrid disk-and-book software publication from Emerald Valley Publishing, marketed as a ready-to-run collection of “10 Complete Programs” supported by a printed full-colour companion booklet. Contemporary advertising confirms versions for Apple II, Commodore 64, IBM PC and PCjr, priced at $14.95, with Volume 1 containing titles including Boolean Brain, Electronic Home Secretary, Savings Planner, SnapCalc, Tablut, Wild Kingdom, Musical Mystery Words, Market Madness, Tower of Hanoi, and Missile Math. This archived disk is the IBM PC / PCjr edition of On Disk Revue Volume 1. It is particularly interesting because the surviving public archive record appears to favour the Apple II version, while the IBM PC/PCjr disk and its accompanying booklet are much harder to locate. The disk is therefore valuable not simply as another copy of the software, but as evidence of the IBM-compatible build of a multi-platform mid-1980s disk magazine / software anthology product. The package represents a transitional publishing model: part magazine, part educational/game software bundle, and part retail software compilation. Unlike later cover disks, this was not a supplement to a monthly magazine issue but a standalone disk publication sold as a complete product with printed supporting material. Preserving the disk image, flux capture, packaging photograph, and any booklet scans is therefore important because the physical presentation and editorial framing are central to understanding what On Disk Revue actually was. Although contemporary references place On Disk Revue as a 1984-introduced disk publication, the IBM PC/PCjr edition preserved here appears to have been mastered in early-to-mid 1985, with most files dated February 1985 and one program file dated May 1985. This may indicate a later IBM-compatible production build rather than the earliest release of Volume 1. If anyone has any information to assist with expanding this, please get in touch.
