Late again.....ho hum. Still better late than never I suppose. The
main reason we are late is due to the writing of a new program to
produce the disk magazine. We hope you like it. It will certainly
make the production of the disk magazine a lot easier as it works on
straight text files. There are also several new facilities. The most
useful of these is the print utility. This allows either the printing
of a single article, or the whole section.

The MAGAZETTE is split into three sections, each section has its own
menu, including the new GOODIES section. To access each page in order,
just keep pressing the <Pg Dn> key. To go up or down a line press the
<8> or <2> keys. At the top of your screen is the title of the article
you are reading, and at the bottom is the name of the author.

If you wish to directly enter another section now, press the <Esc>
key to go to the utilities menu and then <R> to return to the main
menu. Use the cursor keys to make your selection, then press the
    <Enter ─┘> key.

From the ulilities menu, the commands are :-

<Esc> - Return to the article you were reading.
<P> - Print the article you are reading.
<R> - Return to the menu for that section.
       <S> - Quit to system

Use the cursor keys to go through the articles, the <Home> and <End>
keys take you to either the top or bottom of the article. When you
reach the end of the article you will hear a bleep - hit <Pg Dn> or <2>
and you will be in the next article. To return to the menu hit <Esc>
    and then <R>.

The UpDate sheets have proved very popular, and you should all
receive your new membership packs within the next few weeks. We are
using the Dayfold thermal binder system for the membership pack and the
artwork looks very smart, the literature for inside the membership pack
    is currently being typeset.

We also have a problem with user records and passwords on the
bulletin board system. Due to the nature of our multi-user system we
have difficulty maintaining multiple user records. In other words, if
you log in on Port 1 of the BBS and establish a user record, you may be
treated as a new user on the other ports unless your user record on
that port has also been updated by us. The only way around this is for
us to issue passwords and user identities on your behalf. If you
already use the BBS you will have to change your password to the one
    assigned to you.

If all this seems a bit confusing we apologise. For those of you
who haven't yet used the BBS there will be a simple step by step guide
to using the BBS in the membership pack, as well as a full Fido user
manual for the more experienced user.

The growth of COMPULINK has been phenomenal in the past year and we
are always looking for new ways to increase and improve our service to
you the member. It gives us great pleasure to announce the opening of
our Northern branch office in Liverpool.

The branch is run by Brian Williams and the address is:

                         COMPULINK USER GROUP (NORTH)
                             3 GAINSBOROUGH CLOSE
                             LIVERPOOL, L12 9BL.
                                 051-228-3844

If you are in the Liverpool area and have any queries about
Compulink please contact Brian who will be happy to deal with your
    enquiries.

Brian will be installing a new Compulink Fido by the end of May.
Existing members will have the same access to Liverpool as they do to
Guildford all passwords and access time limits will be automatically
setup on the new board, so there will be no need to log in as a new
user. Information about the board will be circulated to you as soon as
    it is available.

Brian brings vast experience with him and will enhance the quality
of the user group no end (He's already written COMPU-FIND our new
interactive data base). He set up one of the first Fido boards in the
U.K. called Fastnet. He has run software support groups in the
U.S.A., he's an excellent communicator and will be coordinating group
meetings to be held around the North West of England. This should give
members in the North greater access to the group. If you have any
ideas about subjects to cover at the meetings drop him a line and let
    him know. Please don't telephone.

We are sure you'll all join us in welcoming Brian and COMPULINK NORTH.
