     Note: This issue of the COMPUTE!'s PC Magazine disk does not have the
     disk menu program found on earlier disks. The menu program has been
     eliminated to conserve disk space and reduce confusion. In its
     place is this text file named README. This file contains descriptions
     for every file on the magazine disk. (In general, these
     descriptions repeat information in the magazine articles.) As always,
     read "How to Use the Disk" and the corresponding magazine articles
     for full instructions before running any programs.

     To print this file, enter the following command at the DOS prompt:

 PRESG.EXE
"Presentation Graphics" program file.

This program prints eye-catching graphs which will embellish any report. It
makes two- or three-dimensional charts in bar or pie form. It runs on any IBM
PC, XT, AT, or compatible with at least 256K of memory, DOS 2.0 or higher, and
a color/graphics adapter (CGA) or equivalent. It won't run on systems with
monochrome adapters (MDA) or other special video hardware.

 SHAPEDIT.COM
"Graphics Shape Editor" for making game shapes.

This is the tool used to make the imaginative game graphics in Burger
Blaster, Qikserve, and Hover -- all presented in previous issues of this
magazine. It runs on any IBM PC, XT, AT, or compatible with at least 256K of
memory, DOS 2.0 or higher, and a color/graphics adapter (CGA) or equivalent.
It won't run on systems with monochrome adapters (MDA) or other special
adapters. It runs on the PCjr if it has more than 128K of memory.   It also
includes two demo files in BASIC and Turbo Pascal.

"Shape Editor" BASIC demonstration program in ASCII format. You can run it or
read it.

"Shape Editor" demonstration program Pascal source code. This file must be
compiled before you can run it.

 DEMO.SHP

"Shape Editor" demonstration program shape file.  This file must be in the
current drive and directory with either demonstration program for them to run.

 EMPIRES.BAS
"Ancient Empires" game BASIC program file.

Use BASIC to run this game. It gives two generals a chance to command armies
in an ancient war of expansion. Each general can move his legions and position
his forces to strike deep into foreign territory. It runs on any IBM PC, XT,
AT, or compatible with at least 256K of memory, DOS 2.0 or higher, IBM BASICA
2.0 or higher or an equivalent GW-BASIC, and a color/graphics adapter (CGA) or
equivalent hardware. It won't run on systems with monochrome adapters (MDA) or
other special video hardware.

 POKER.EXE
"Power Poker" game program file.

Think of this game as two-dimensional poker. You play on a five-by-five grid
and try to make the hands that gain the most points. It's fun for one player
or in competition with friends. ``Power Poker'' makes use of color if it's
available, but it runs on monochrome systems, too. For any IBM PC, XT, AT, or
compatible with at least 256K of memory, DOS 2.0 or higher, and either a
color/graphics adapter (CGA) monochrome adapter (MDA) or equivalent hardware.

 JLSCAN1.EXE
This issue's "Best of the Boards" presentation.

This is a self-extracting archive file. It contains the runnable file and
documentation for using the program.  See the magazine itself for information
on how to uncompress the file. Don't uncompress the file on the magazine disk
because there may not be enough room for the files.

 FILEIT.COM
"Fileit" Screen print utility.

This handy memory-resident utility uses your computer's Print Screen service
to copy the image on your monitor screen to a disk file. It runs on any IBM
PC, XT, AT, or compatible with at least 256K of memory, DOS 2.0 or higher.

This file contains information on every file on the magazine disk.

 SOURCE.EXE
Magazine program source code file.

This file contains source code for the programs found elsewhere on the disk.
These files are not runnable -- they are for programmers who want to know how
the programs work. The source code is compressed into this self-extracting
archive file. See instructions for uncompressing it in the "How To Use The
Disk" section in the magazine itself.  Do not uncompress it on the magazine
disk because there may not be room for the files.

DIRECT.BAT
Demonstration for the IntroDOS column.

This batch file contains examples of directory commands.  Run it as you 
would any batch file.
