REVERSI (Cactus Software)
------- -----------------

Introduction / Rules
--------------------

Reversi was invented about a hundred years ago, and is one of the best games
that can be played on a chess board. The object of the game is to have as many
as possible of your pieces on the board when the game ends.

White begins by putting one of his pieces on one of the four middle squares.
Black puts one of his pieces on another middle square. White then puts his
second piece on a third middle square and Black puts his second piece on the
last middle square. These four squares must be filled first.

After the four middle squares have been filled the players take it in turn
to put out pieces one at a time. Each piece must be placed on a square next to
one that has an enemy piece on it, either straight up and down, or straight
across, or diagonally. It must also trap some of the enemy's pieces between
itself and another piece of the same colour with no spaces at any point. The
enemy piece, or pieces, between the two pieces at each end are 'captureed' by
turning them over so that the whole line shows the same colour. The pieces do
not move from one square to another but they can be turned over many times
during a game. More than one line can be captured by the addition of one
piece.

The pieces that need to be turned over are automatically turned by the
program. You may find that you cannot make a legal move. This is determined by
the program, and if this happens you miss a turn and keep on missing your turn
until you can make a legal move.

The game ends when all sixty-four pieces have been placed on the board, or
when neither player can move. The winner is the player with the most pieces
showing his colour on the board at the end of the game.

Moves are entered by pressing the appropriate letter and number for the
square required. Each move is checked for validity and if the move is not
valid a message will flash and you must re-enter the move.

If at any point during the game you wish to abandon, press 'Esc'.
