   ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello and welcome to BILL CALCULATOR

This program estimates the cost of your
                    household Electricity and Gas Bills

*** Before you begin you will need your last bill ***

   ---------------------------------------------------------------------

To begin type : BILLS at the Dos Prompt.

The menu will give you three options - Electricity Gas and Exit

To estimate an Electricity Bill press E, for Gas press G

                          -- Data Entry --

You will be prompted to enter several parameters before calculation can
take place:

eg: Previous Reading, Present Reading, Cost per Unit, etc:

To make the entry of data as easy as possible, you will find that the
computer will automatically RETURN after it has all the information it needs,
ie: The electricity previous reading is made up of five figures eg:(15370)
once all the figures have been entered, the computer will know that the end
of the entry has been reached and go on to ask for more data.

To enter money values, such as 'Pence per unit' simply enter the number
with a decimal point (eg: Cost=5.97p Enter 5.97). The computer will
return after the second figure after the decimal point (7) is entered. If you
have a value such as 5.9p, you can either enter 5.9 [Return] or 5.90.

The standing charge (Entered in pounds) will be treated in exactly the
same way ie: £8.50 will be entered as 8.50 or 8.5 [Return].

(See example figures later in text)

If you make a mistake during entry of the figures, press ESC to clear a
space ready for you to type the entry again. The delete key will not work.

                          -- Electricity --

To calculate the electricity bill you will need to enter the following:

Previous reading - The highest reading on the last bill
Present reading - Taken from the meter
Cost per unit - Found on the last bill
Standing Charge - Also found on the last bill

                     Here are some example figures:

                                  Actual Enter
                                  Figures

       Previous meter reading 10976 10976
       Present meter reading 12106 12106
       Cost per Unit 5.99p 5.99
       Standing Charge £8.85 8.85

The computer will work out the number of units used and from this calculate
the cost of the bill.

In the above example Units used=1130 and the total cost=£76.54

                              -- GAS --

The gas calculation will require the following information:

Previous reading - The highest figure on the last bill
Present reading - Taken from the meter
The Calorific value - On the last Bill (BTU's per cubic feet)
Pence per therm - On the last bill
Standing Charge - Also on the last bill

Here is an example:

                                      Actual Enter
                                      Figures

            Previous meter reading 1203 1203
            Present meter reading 1341 1341
            Cost per Therm 38.5p 38.5 RETURN or38.50
            Calorific Value 1034 BTU's 1034
            Standing Charge £8.70 8.70

The computer will come back with...

The gas supplied = 142.692 Therms and the total cost is £63.64
