KEYLOCK HELP.... Some information on using KEYLOCK
--------------------------------------------------
KEYLOCK is a memory resident utility which enables the keyboard to
be locked at any time with a simple key sequence. The keyboard will
remain disabled until a predefined password of up to 8 characters is
entered.
KEYLOCK is invoked from the DOS prompt as follows
=================================================
A>KEYLOCK {function key number}
where
{function key number}
a function key number in the
range 1 to 10.
The function key number determines the key sequence which
activates the lock.
On entering the KEYLOCK command the utility will prompt for a
password. At this point, up to eight characters may be entered which
are not echoed on the screen. On entering the password, the utility
will prompt for verification and the same character sequence must be
re-entered. If the verification fails then the password must be re-
entered until verified correctly. The resident part of the utility
will then be installed.
KEYLOCK may also be invoked from a batch file as follows
========================================================
A>KEYLOCK {function key number} {password} > NUL
where
{function key number}
a function key number in the
range 1 to 10.
{password}
a password up to 8 characters in
length.
> NUL
suppresses copyright notice
The function key number determines the key sequence which
activates the lock as before.
To facilitate the use of the utility in a batch file, a
password may be entered as the second parameter. The password
specified in this way will not be verified, the installation must be
tested at least once at a non-critical point.
As the password will be displayed when the batch file is
executed, it is best to place an ECHO OFF command in the batch file
before the KEYLOCK command.
Locking the keyboard
====================
The lock is activated by holding down both the Ctrl and Alt
keys and pressing the function key as specified in the first
parameter. A long beep will be heard indicating that the keyboard is
locked.
When locked, non of the keyboard functions will operate and
nothing will be entered in the keyboard buffer.
The lock may be activated at any time whatever the computer is
doing.
Unlocking the keyboard
======================
The keyboard can only be unlocked by entering the password
specified during installation. A short beep will be heard for each
correct character typed. Once the correct character sequence has been
entered, a long beep will be heard indicating that the keyboard is
unlocked.
